been awhile....

Hey,

I'm probably going to retire this blog now. I'm not exactly married, and it's so full of that thing that I really don't want to see it anymore.

I'll still leave it up, though. I guess as a sort of memorial to Ernest. He was too good to be true.

:(

Welp, there goes my husband.

Thanks for nothing, pteracuda.

sick of it

It was really exciting, at first. Chasing a deadly creature down to learn more about it. I mean, who gets that chance? (Especially when they're like Ernie and me, who actually love stuff like this. Not like this exactly. Never done this before. But stuff. You know.)

But I've really lost my taste for it. I am also tired of Mexico. I want to be safe, and I want to be at home.

Ernie is inclined to disagree, just a little bit. But at least he understands that we can't do this forever. Life will have to go on.

I'm totally, totally out. But he wants to go on tomorrow's excursion, "Just to say I did."

He can do what he wants. (This sounds like the honeymoon period is over, and I guess in a literal way that's true but we're still in love and I just would rather live with him in, you know, America.)

And wouldn't it be nice to have a normal married-person blog again?

a little too close

what I hate about the pteracuda most is the way it beats its wings to make you fall down

though i don't like its teeth either

ernie hates its tail whip

We're still fine. Not a super fun excursion today though. Nothing wrong that a little first aid at the hospital can't fix (WE'RE TOTALLY FINE MOM)

gotta name

hi everyone!

Someone got a good picture of The Creature and it's clear that it's some sort of mix between a giant bat and an eel or something.

Oh, our resident zoologist Ernest has informed me that it's a pterodactyl-barracuda mix. Thanks, honey.

Apparently they're going to call it a pteracuda (clever). I'm kind of fond of barradactyl myself, but whatever the ICZN prefers is fine.

We're going on an excursion tomorrow to see if we can capture it. Ooh, what if there's more than one? That is terrifying (but exciting).

WHAT

Hey everyone,

Ernie and I are fine. We're still in Mexico. We're okay.

Yes, we were in that group attacked by that weird creature. Yes, our guide Manuel got eaten (he was so nice, I'm quite sad). Yes, other tourists have sustained serious injuries.

But we're fine.

Actually, we're more than fine, we're FASCINATED.

It's probably wrong of us to be so into something that attacked us, but something about its powerful wings and the way it just went for everyone has made us want to see more. (What do you expect, letting two biologists see a mutant like that.) The glimpses we caught as we raced toward shelter were definitely not enough.

Ernie and I have talked it over and we're going to join the group of ... people (scientists? explorers? daredevils?) on the hunt for this creature. So we'll still be in Mexico for the time being.

Best. Honeymoon. Ever.

jungle time???

Ernie just introduced me to our guide for the day, Manuel. Manuel 'no speak English' so that's going to be exciting.  I just want to get out there in nature! Even if we do have to wear long sleeves and extra-gross repellent. (Actually Ern would rather get malaria than wear the repellent, but I sprayed some on him anyway.)

Manuel just said (and Ernie translated) that we should see some great wild animals today. I hope I get a good picture of a monkey.

HERE WE GO!
